A little note before we begin: I originally sent this as a letter to the House of Kiro mailing list, but I wanted to share it here too. I’ll occasionally be posting these letters on the site — but if you’d like to receive them first (along with little updates from behind the scenes at Kiro), you can join our newsletter on our home page. 🖤
Anyway… here’s my first letter. :)
Hi there,
This is Aria, founder of House of Kiro. Thanks very much for opening this email! This is my first attempt at writing a newsletter hahah. I have put this off for quite some time, thinking that my brand newsletter had to be polished and fancy. But recently I realized that it's more important to speak to you from the heart and share what I want to share.
It has been 6 months since I started House of Kiro, and it has been a truly magical, life-changing, and meaningful experience. I've told the following story many times, but I still want to say it. I started this brand because when I was much younger and going to school in Los Angeles, I found a deep and settling sense of community by going to kink events and being part of the kink community in that city. I will forever be grateful for that.... for finding a community that helped me to let out a breath, that helped me to think: "Oh. maybe there isn't anything wrong with my sexuality."
In college I posted a lot about kink positivity. A lot of my Instagram friends, to this day, might think, "Aria just has this... weird fetish thing she likes lol." And I'm okay with that. But I still want to, and still will, continue to speak out about what it means to be kinky, and why it's okay. I will always want to help newbie kinksters find their first play party, I will always find it important to warn new subs about fake doms, and I will always, always feel this little blooming sensation in my heart when talking to a fellow kinkster. I think the blooming sensation is a feeling that, despite it all—despite the misunderstandings and the biases—we exist, we're proud to be here, we love being ourselves, and our existence gives others like us the courage to exist proudly as well.
So this brand is my love letter to the community. It's my way of giving back. I want this brand to contribute to the kink community's positive ecosystem and serve as a platform and community-facilitator for kinksters living courageously as themselves.
During the time I've spent founding and operating the brand, the moments I valued most were my interactions with you. When I saw the first real online order, I got so excited that I jumped up and down and cried. That may sound a little silly, but it finally all felt real, and that was such a rush. When you sent emails with questions about the product, or texted the @houseofkiro account on FetLife with suggestions for the next campaign, I felt that you cared. I felt like you saw all the little details I put into the website design, or the hours I spent perfecting a particular leather collar.
And it's moments like these, the genuine connections I have with the customers and fans, that make it all worth it.
So...... anyway. Whew. That was a little... emotional. hahahahha. But I really did want to express my gratitude.
And lastly, we wanted to share some upcoming developments for the brand:
- We're in the process of developing a thinner daily-wear leather collar.
- We love how much you guys love the kink archetype fragrances.... and we are in the process of developing more.
- We are looking for more offline venues and events to vend at... primarily in the Los Angeles area. We're open to considering New York as well. Let us know if you have any leads.
We are a small team, so please be patient with us as we continue to develop the brand and hopefully bring you cool new things~
P.S:
This email is my personal House of Kiro email, and it's reply-able. So feel free to reply directly if you wanna chat or have any questions :)
